All that's left is for Whiz to admit he's tanking the season...

C'mon Donald... How do you know Whiz didn't want to make the decision earlier but was over-ruled? Or, perhaps Whiz really wanted to give Matty a shot this season to come into camp and prove he is worthy of the starting job, only to have the kid prove that he is who Whiz thought he was... We don't know. All we know is that Matty has had 4 years to make the right impression on Whiz, and somehow he has collossally failed. Incredible...

Then he shouldn't have blown smoke in the offseason. Whis is not infallible, and I don't think he's handled this situation in the best way possible from lots of angles. Politically he might have had to do it like this, but it sure seems like a lot of time was wasted "finding out" something he already should have known. I don't think he handled sitting Boldin down in a good manner either (the uniform gone thing) and some other smaller things. I think he makes the RIGHT moves, and I trust him to do so, but this one took too long and should have been more decisive. If he wanted to break up with Matt, dump his ass instead of stringing him along. If Matt wasn't giving him what he needed, well ffs let that be known. There is a lot of pussyfooting around from both Whis and Matt and the team in general on this.

Too much "aw shucks" :kicksdirt: in this whole story between the both of them.

Can't argue with much there...

Right? I mean, for all of you experts out there that have now diced and sliced both Matty's and DA's numbers to death, attempting to illustrate how Matty really isn't all that bad and that CKW must be brain-dead not to see that Matty is the crystal clear, single-best choice for our team... all he now needs to do is confirm your collective thoughts and state that he is in fact, tanking the season. He is intentionally, in premeditated fashion, purposely dumping this season in the trash by playing with Matty's tender heart-strings and toying with the idea of starting Derek Anderson.
Right? I mean, isn't this what drives CKW?? And moreover, since he is merely the coach and captain of our ship, what does he really know anyway... He can't possibly have considered all of the facts and figures the professors of this board have tossed out. Why would he if he's aiming to trash the season, right?
He can't possibly have a pulse on the team dynamics... can't possibly have a feel for which guy is best suited to take charge and lead this team in a manner CKW feels is required, right?
CKW certainly isn't in a position to take note of how Matty does/or does not do the little things that often-times are unnoticed, but in many cases play a HUGE role in team success, right?

Naw.... c'mon coach! Stop with all of the agonizing nonsense! Just come out and admit it! You hate this team! You hate this franchise! You hate us fans!! And you hate Matty Leinart! Your honesty will be far greater respected than lurking in the shadows as you are!!

82 did you ever actually see Derek Anderson play football? As a Cleveland Brown or as a Baltimore Raven or as an Oregon State Beaver? Honestly?

I have a hard time believing that anyone who has actually seen Derek Anderson play the game of football when the games counted and the team was depending on him think that Derek Anderson could lead us anywhere.

Have you looked at DA's stat line from when he played in the Pro Bowl? When the rules are set up so there's no pass rush and the game is essentially offensive pinball? Look it up some time.

Wow... you missed the entire point of this thread and all of my posts.

In short, I don't care what you believe about DA. I don't care about his average/mediocre/sucky past.
All I know is that THE GUY who has been with Matt the last 3-plus years doesn't believe Matt can handle the job. Period.
Further, I believe DA is not some Josh McCown... He has potential. A ton of it. And if THE GUY feels that we are better positioned to win with DA at the helm, than that's all I need to know...

I don't think he's tanking the season. I think he's trying to determine which of our veterans will make the best backup QB once he hands the reins over to Hall (bye week). I think we were looking at 7/8 wins with Matt as the starter and probably one or two fewer in my scenario but both versions have us on the outside come playoff time.

All right--so have you seen him play. Regardless of what you think about Matt Leinart (I'm not sure how you believe a guy who completes 60% of his passes is going to get more first downs than a guy who completes 54% of his passes with a smaller YPA, but whatever)--what have you seen that makes you think that Derek Anderson is a superior alternative?

Or are you simply saying Anybody But Matt Leinart? That sounds like what you're saying. Because Browns fans who have actually watched Derek Anderson play for four years are laughing at us right now.

Finally, Derek Anderson is 27 years old. How much better do you really think he's going to get? Do you have a lot of precedent for quarterbacks who suddenly became awesome after more than 1100 passing attempts? John Elway became more accurate when put in to a West Coast system, but he was always good.

Are you telling me that you believe that Derek Anderson--whom you essentially say that you've never seen in real football games--is going to be the first player in NFL history to become a excellent quarterback after being below average for all but five games of his career?

One more bit of knowledge to drop on you about your new favorite quarterback: in 2008 do you want to know how often Derek Anderson's big arm checked down? 50% of the time. In 2009 he threw it into the short area 63% of the time(!!!!!!). One-armed Kurt Warner only checked down into the short zone 43% of the time last year!

But you wouldn't know these things, because you haven't seen Derek Anderson play.

Of course I have seen DA play. I am extremely realistic about what he can do for us. At the same time, I am not nearly as dour as you and others are. The guy had one season where he started all 16 games (2007). In that season, he threw for 3,800 yards and 29 TD's with a 7.2 yards per attempt ratio. His completion % was a pedestrian 56.5%. And obviously in '08 and '09 he only got worse and only started 9 and 7 games respectively. Given that he was playing for an extremely craptastic franchise with zero talent, and in tough, outdoor conditions in the brutal AFC North division, I am willing to cut him some degree of slack.
Truthfully, I have very little to go on in assessing his ability to produce more first downs and more TD's than Matty. Other than what I've seen in the past and thus far this preseason. And in that context, along with Whiz's endorsement of DA over Matty, my gut tells me that DA presents the best option for this team to do just that - gain more first downs and score more points than we would if Matty was our QB.

So no, this is most definitely not a "anyone but Matty" situation at all. In fact, I came into this season believe #7 was our guy. I was fully prepared to support the kid, though I still held serious doubts. What has transpired has only cemented those doubts...

I agree Bucky... I don't think there is a person on the planet who would have conjured up this situation... nobody... :bang:

I don't think he's tanking the season but I don't think if he picks DA the decision is based on who played better.

It is probably based on something we're not aware of, something internal to the team.

Contracts and the future of the team (Namely Skelton and Hall) not being mortgaged for a one year starter who we will cut next offseason. It is a numbers game. Sando also had a quote in his blog that Warner got in good with Whiz by asking Haley, who he reportedly had an excellent relationship with, what the coach wanted - limit turnovers. So Warner did. In Matty's comments today Leinart made reference to not knowing what else he could do and what the coaches wanted. Sando pointed out that him not knowing what the coaches want is a bad sign and make ML sound as though he is in denial about his performance and what the team wants form him.

But the point is valid. You may disagree with Whiz's assessment of Matty vs. DA, but he isn't doing anything he feels is not the best option for the Arizona Cardinals. And I challenge anyone to show me an example of how Whiz has ever, ever shown anything different. The guy would sell his own Grandmother to win the West. So be upset, but I trust his opinion more than my own meager evaluation. How many on here thought ML should have won the job 2 years ago over Warner? Yeah..... scary that our current coaching staff has shown a propensity to be correct more than we, the fans, are.

Whisenhunt is a risk taker. Matt has been good in the preseason as far as Qb raiting, but never takes a risk down field, which DA does. Matt shouldn't be throwing little dump offs all the time with his short passes. Whisenhunt is just lighting a fire under Matt for he can play at a high level. Cuz when it's all said and done Matt will be the Qb.

The numbers in preseason don't support what you are saying.

I'm done with this stuff.

It's not just that DA is starting and not Matt, cause I honestly don't care that much about Matt although I'm on his side in this whole issue it's only because I think he's earned at least a few starts to see why the heck he's been here for 4 years.

This offseason is just incredibly flattening, I've never in all my life cared less for the Cardinals than I do right now, and that is saying a lot.

I've suffered some of the most God awful assemblegages of NFL rejects ever to walk the earth and still be more pumped before a season, this is just more than bizzare and well it's frankly deflating in the extreme.

I wish the team well, and I hope they find what they're looking for.

Finally though, don't pee on my back and tell me it's raining.

Don't tell me you just now figured out something about a QB 4 years into the whole deal, that's a lie IMO.

I don't know what's going on and I don't care, it stinks and as a fan I don't have to put up with it.

Wow. I mean really?

So you felt better about the entire 90's decade and first half of this one?

Color me as confused as you are, but to each his own.

No kidding, c'mon Conrad, you're rarely this maudlin. I hate to channel Tango, but the wailing and gnashing of teeth over Matt freaking Leinart is absolutely unbelievable around here. It's like half this board wasn't even around prior to 2006. Have a little perspective here.

Well you have to consider that this is the same outfit that after 5 years couldn't figure out if Karlos Dansby was a playmaker or a malingerer.
