Is Dave McGinnis still ticked at the Cardinals?

I can't figure out why a defense that blitzed the least of any defense in the NFL last year pretty much threw everything and the kitchen sink at us. Especially the first 4 or 5 series.

The only thing I can think of is that Fisher wanted to win the game for McGinnis. Why else put so much on tape for opponents this season?

It did seem odd no matter the reasoning. Yes teams blitz during the preseason but its typically of a generic variety. Jeff Fisher seemed to want to win this game like it mattered and it might bite them in the ass in the long run

Why would McGinnis be angry at the Cardinals ?

Because they fired him. I heard him interviewed last year, and it sounded possible he blamed his firing completely on the team and lack of talent.

He had a point, but accepted no responsibility.

The Titans also have young players along the DL and in the LB corps. I'm guessing that the Titans didn't mind some rather vanilla blitzes (not a lot of twists or delayed blitzing) in order to get some more technique work for their young LBs and get them shooting gaps and (theoretically, at least) taking on blockers.

Matt said last week that the Titans run a lot of blitzes and show a lot in the preseason. It's not like this is unexpected. The Titans might also not blitz as much as other teams because they play Houston and Indy twice a year. You can't blitz those teams because their QBs will beat you. Those are four games when you slam the breaks on your D.

I think they did us a favor to be honest with you.

Maybe we should petition the league and play by pro bowl rules during the exibition season so we don't look bad.

Grimm has a lot of work to do with this line and they had better improve or we might as well prepare ourselves for 2006-07 all over again.

Back then the coachhad no say in the draft so he may have a point...

That's not the story that Nidan was selling back when it happened. Mac definitely had say in drafting Leonard Davis and Thomas Jones. Those were his guys. Mac coached Josh McCown at the Senior Bowl.

According to Nidan, at least, Graves shouldn't be blamed for the terrible trade down and the drafting of Bryant Johnson or Calvin Pace because it was outside his control. I've always taken that to mean that Mac made those choices because he was on the hot seat and was given all the rope he needed to hang himself.

Whomever was at fault, that was not a good move in my opinion.

I still feel that we should have taken Suggs.

Well he isn't the guy making the defensive play calls. He is the LB coach and asst head coach not the def coordinator.

I'll never forget the look on McGinnis' face when he was interviewed by ESPN right after that trade. He looked pale and like he wanted to vomit.

Of course the guy we traded down for was snagged by the Eagles two picks earlier and he turned out to be a bigger bust than Pace and even Bryant.

Dave can stuff it, he's a nice guy but the knew the deal when he took the job, after his HC got fired btw, because he lost all the talent on the team in like one year.

Dave is completely full of it, he knew our reputation around the league at the time and he wanted the job bad anyhow, classic case of revisionist history.

He was like the interim sacrifice guy, the guy you hire to implode because you aren't going to spend real money until the stadium is done and if he didn't see that writing on the wall he wasn't looking.

It is funny to me that Mac already "had" the Bears' job before he took the Cards job. He backed out when they announced it too early for his tastes or something. Silly.

McGinnis may not be ticked at the Cards but many Cardinal fans are still ticked at him for the awful football he gave us.

I don't recall ever hearing nidan say that and if I'm not mistaken, Graves has accepted the responsibility for that trade and said it was his idea. Of course, no one mentions his second round pick-up in that same draft as it ruins a good rant against Graves.

Are you talking about that stud Wide Receiver for the Ravens?

There we go again, I remember saying the same thing on draft day and being called an ASU homer (which I proudly am).

I remember the tons of arguments about how good Suggs was leading up to the draft. And, about the fight he was in, etc. I've never argued so much in favor of a player before or since.

Jeez, I wish I didn't work so much now. :(

i think I recall Nidan saying this in the past. And getting a great 2nd rounder doesn't make up for completely blowing a top 6 pick, especially one so obvious for a guy who's a perenial Pro-Bowler who gets non-stop pressure on the QB which is STILL a problem for this team.

But yes, Boldin was a stud. Doesn't make it any better what a horrific trade that was and what we missed out on with that pick.

Hell, for all I know opposing coaches in preseason may ask each other to run certain schemes for them to work on. Seems plausible to me

Yep. The one who gave us Cardinal fans something to cheer about before we had a winning team. I can't think of a number one pick by the Cards who ever meant as much to this team as Boldin did.

I can remember this -- the F.O. wanted to fire Marmie (DC) at the end of the 2nd season for Mac. Mac said he'd quit if they fired him.

The end result of it was that if Mac insisted, they would do as he wished. But it was sort of understood that if that didn't go so well, Mac himself might find he was on the hot seat next year.

I think Marmie didn't go so well.
