BTW, I met like 6 ASU fans tonight talking crap to UofA fans who have never attended Arizona State University. I find people who are fans of a college teams who never even went to the school to be the lamest of the lame. Get a life losers...

Seriously, this is an alumni, not a bandwagon... Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas fans are pretty big offenders from what I have encountered, but ASU? WTF?
So since I "attended WIU," I should be a Western Illannoy fan??? Not evryone can go to the U they would first choose and Iowa didn't offer the major I was interested in. :mulli:
The first college coach i followed was Lute Olson and I lived in AZ as a short time when I was a child. Sorry I don't follow your line of thinking. :doi:

Well its not like the school I went to was in the Big 10 or some school that would ever compete with ASU, so I feel its a non issue. My school played in the SLIAC conference, which, no one has ever even heard of.

I was at the 19-0 ASU v Nebraska game, I rushed the field when ASU beat Cal to secure the Rose Bowl, I was there crying my eyes out the year before when UA beat ASU to deny them a chance at bowl, etc. etc. I think I've paid my dues or whatever as an ASU fan.

You sir are as big of a fan as anyone... You bleed Marroon and Gold like the Rest of us, and I respect that..

Go DEVILS!

Ryan, school loyalties are strange and it takes some of us multiple schools to get things done.

Started as a 17 year old freshman and took me 15 years, I think, and 3 schools to get my Bachelor's. I was immature and not ready the first go-round. Two and a half years at Notre Dame in chemical engineering. Carried a C average and barely kept afloat in a program chosen by my father.

I loved the school but really majored in smoking dope and trying to get laid. Finally, the folks said "we are wasting our money" and "you are on your own."

Joined the Marine Corps. Loved it. Good place for misfits. Grew up fast and prayed "Lord, keep me alive because I am sooo ready to go back to school!" Sitting on the Turkish border, looking into Russia in 1973, freezing my ass, as the Israeli Arab war broke out, convinced me for good.

Came out here in 1976. Took a few years to get healthy enough then wanted to double-major in accounting and finance. Some credits wouldn't transfer and some didn't apply and went to MCC in Mesa to fill in some gaps in needed courses. Transfered to ASU, double major. Felt sorry for the young people. Older motivated farts like me screwed up the grade curve. Graduated at age 30 or 31?

I support both ASU and Notre Dame and still check up on Lehigh (the Mountain Hawks), a little liberal arts school I really had wanted to go to first time around.

The world is weird. Support whoever you want for whatever reason. It's all good.

Sorry this is off topic. Go Devils!

If only ASU and UA alumni were allowed to support their teams by attending games the arenas and stadiums would be half empty every week at best. I understand that can feel more of a connection as a graduate of a certain institution but there are countless non-alums whom without both athletic departments would be screwed.

James Harden for example will in all likelihood never graduate from ASU, does that make him less of a Sun Devil? Jim Click never went to UofA but is up there amongst our biggest football boosters as is Richard Jefferson in hoops but again he never graduated from the U.

I was born in Tucson, my family has had season basketball tickets since Lute came to town and we still do even though we havent lived in Tucson for over a decade. My brother graduated from the UofA while we lived there, we went to all the football and basketball games, even friday afternoon basketball practices, attended baseball and hockey games.

However, we moved when I was 11 and I graduated from college and will from grad school in the mid west.

The point I am trying to make is I am a die hard UA fan, always have been and always will be. Certain circumstances kept me from attending UA (not any issues with academics), but I still support them more than my undergrad, because I grew up meeting the players, going to games and practices.

You can understand a rivalry by living in it, not just by attending one of the universities. You can become a fan by growing up one, not by attending a university.

If you think im wrong, please enlighten us as to why.

calling me kid doesn't make your opinion have more merit. it just makes you look like a tool.

If you read a bit further up, I apologized to Hooverdam so my intent is not to further my opinion. It's okay son, I have two kids and I was young once too.

I absolutely don't think you are wrong. I am facinated in learning that some of the more fanatical fans of college programs who post on this board didn't attend the schools. Not that that is bad or wrong in any way, it's just interesting

I'm sorry if you have misconstrued my comments. It's unfortunate that you have taken the converstation into personal insults. This is just the internet, it's not that serious

Judging by the attendence at the ASU basketball games this season, you would think you guys would be happy getting all the fans you can get... whether he actually attended ASU or not.

I was there when ASU beat Cal to clinch the Rose Bowl in '86. I didn't go to ASU because it was 20 mins down the road and like a lot of people I wanted to go away to school--but as a kid I spent half the Saturday nights in the fall at Sun Devil Stadium, so never gave up being a fan. The Suns and Sun Devils were my first favorite teams...why change?
