can't connect laptop to network

Let me clarify, run the browser request from your PC not the laptop

The netgear #WGR614. The pc doesn't connect and I get the timed out message that http://192.168.0.1 is taking too long to respond.

Believe it or not I think we are making progress.

The reason I think that is that if you haven't done this before then you can't have configured the wireless settings on the router.

If that is true there is no way the laptop connects.

I think we found your problem, you haven't setup the router.

This [unless I am very much mistaken] has nothing to do with your main PC, it is not involved in any way, that was what was confusing the issue.
