Krispy Kreme was mentioned in the thread about Fazoli's. Personally, I am a huge Dunkin Donuts fan since I was a little kid. I still love the coffee and the donuts...but I think the best donut is Lamar's on 23rd Ave and Bell. The donuts are spectacular and are the anti-Krispy Kreme. Not overly sweet and gooey....just really, really flavorful. They always have several varieties where fresh fruit is mixed into the batter...like banana, blueberry, or what is in season. And the donut has nice chunks of the fruit.

My nephew in Denver introduced me to Lamar's....definitely worth a try. The coffee is good and the atmosphere is nicer than Dunkin.

Krispy Kreme is absolute crap...overhyped garbage. We(wife and I) regularly refer to them as either Krappy Kreme or Krispy Krap...blech

Dunkin Donuts rules.

Have you made the short trip yet?

Its about 15 miles from me. Next time I bring the kids to the ex, or their grandma, I'm going. (they live off of Val Vista and Higley respectively) I may have to today. :)

Krispy Kreme's are okay. Never understood the lovefest over such a tiny, overpriced donut.

The ones I used to make were a kajillion times better. :)

My folks live up near 35th & Bell...if I'm ever up that way in the a.m., I'll give them a try. Sounds good!

The donut is priced anything above what you'd get at any other donut shop.

Guess who isn't getting any Krispy's.....

I don't understand your first sentence...unless you meant "isn't". If that is what you meant, then yes, they cost ABOUT the same (KK is still more). But with KK you get (using raw numbers as an example; I have no clue what the actuals would be) 1 lb of donuts/dozen; elsewhere you get 2.5 lbs/dozen.

BUT, I never said I didn't like them. They're just too expensive (to me) for such a small donut.

What I DO get, though, is that I could name probably 10 ways right off the top of my head that you can ruin a donut. KK's automated processes for EVERYTHING pretty much eliminates most of those ways, so in that regard, you do get a pretty good quality donut. Just way too small/expensive for me. But going elsewhere can be a crapshoot on how good a donut you'll get.

Peter Pan Bakery on Manhattan Ave and Meserole in Greenpoint Brooklyn. Tiny coffee shop hasnt been remodeled since the 50s. Make everything in house, polish family owned. A absolutely frickin amazing CInnamon apple fruit filled donut with a coffee cake like crumb topping. Its like 2 donuts in one and its 80 freaking cents. coffee, 65 cents for a small. Im not a KK hater, other than I think they arent quality at all, but anyone eats this donut, you will never want another donut the rest of your life. I didnt like donuts at all until I had this one.

Also, Donut Plant in the Lower East Side, run by a bunch of Krishnas. Great donuts.
