This is my first draft having NFL network. How is their draft day coverage? Should I stick with ESPN or go with NFL network? I'm sure I'll toggle between the two, but which one should be the primary?

NFL network. Mayock is excellent. No Chris Berman to deal with. Much more pleasant watch.

Good question. I'm going with the NFLN as well, for the first time.

I am going with NFLN. I like the commentators better and think the overall coverage is better and more informative.

NFLN, it isn't even close. The one redeeming feature of ESPN is Cris Mortensen, but too many times I've seen Berman cut him off, or filibuster him into silence. Mel Kiper seems to have gone downhill this year. He spends more time arguing with Todd McShay than doing analysis.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Charlie Casserly and getting his insights on NFLN. He is totally uninhibited and has excellent contacts. And Rich Eisen does a decent job of getting maximum input from all his commentators.


That's one of the big differences in the coverage. Eisen facilitates the commentators. Berman likes to hear himself talk.

I'll be watching NFLN until Mayock annoys me beyond reproach. ESPN might have a good cat fight between McShay and Mel, that could be interesting though. I agree with Red, Mortenson is ESPNs best source, and I value what Casserly has to say on NFLN as well.

I can't wait , time to go get supplies for the weekend, Beer, Wings, steak, and more BEER!

Pretty much unanimous...I wonder if the Eastern Sports Promotion Network ever gets tired of talking about the Red Sox vs. Yankees....boy is that ever boring to me.

NFL Network has done a terrific job...all of the commenators are good and quite enjoyable to listen to.

Mayock puts Kiper to shame now. The contrived arguing between McShay and Kiper is just that..contrived and the look on Kiper's face sort of says why did they bring him in here. Hannaty and Combs is more fun to watch cuz Hannaty always wins!!

Me too, I have it at home but I'll be in Sacramento at my girlfriends parents house and if I get to watch Tv at all , it'll be ESPN.

i used to watch every second the draft. six years ago i discovered the coachella music festival. it competes with the draft every year. for the past six years i have watched the beginning of the draft only to just miss seeing who we pick and then on to the shows . . . no draft. this year goldenvoice put together a god-awful lineup and i decided not to go to coachella. i am actually free to watch the entire draft this year! i just bought a new house. i don't have cable yet. really? great.

I am so used to ESPN (I like Boomer, Mort and even Mel)...but last year I found myself switching back and forth because ESPN goes into their ridiculous panel discussions with the likes of Trey Wingo and Merrill Hodge (who has yet to say anything that ever made sense to me) or their umpteen interviews with Bill Polian and Roger Goodell while interesting picks are being made. At NFL Network they seem far more devoted to discussing each pick as it comes in...and that's what the real fan wants.

ESPN this year will probably talk about Brett Favre, TO and Chad Johnson for about 4-5 hours of their coverage. They think these are the stories fans are interested in. Er...NOT!

I will predict right now that I will watch more of NFL Network this year than ESPN.

Mitch, I've always thought that Hodge was there for comic relief. This will be my first year for the NFL Network, so I'll see how it goes. Also, I like John Clayton and he'll be on ESPN radio with Colin Cowherd. My wife is away, so I'm concerned about ODing on football, this weekend. Let's see, TV, Radio and Computer, plus phone calls from friends. That's the ticket.

NFL Network is more for the hardcore fan. And usually you need to be very hardcore to watch 10 to 20 hours of draft coverage.

I took three days off and sent my wife to her mothers for a reason. And it wasn't Kiper's hair.
