I always say that you can't truely make a decision on a roster move without some idea of the estimated cap implications. That being said we all go back and forth on the potential signing of Faneca, while we can't pin point contract numbers for him, based on the past years signings of big name guards we can estimate estimate what a contract may look like...any ideas?

I have an idea --- he should give us a big discount just so he can play for Whis and Grimm.

Actually, there's no reason for him to take less on average, in terms of bonus and salary, than what Dockery and Steinbach got last year. Maybe the deal would be a year, or two, shorter for Faneca. But, he's going to do damn well in free agency, no matter who signs him.

Pages of paper with numbers and letters on them. Also some signatures. Probably some stamps. Notary stamps, not postage stamps.

Well, I read somewhere that his total compensation this year was in the 4.5 million range... show I'd imagine he's looking for 6 million +.

I hear Faneca is old school

I imagine a large piece of parchment, gothic lettering and a big wax stamp on the bottom. He signed it with a feather quill dipped in ink.

I'm guessing many pages of legal size paper with his signature someone near the end?

Man you are so close to about what I was going to say.

Taking Leonard Davis deal and dwindling it down to a 3 year deal a Faneca deal could look like so.

3 years - 7 Mill signing bonus - Straight base salaries for all 3 years of 4 Mill. Making for a 3 year 19 Mill total deal. Cap value of $6,333,333 a year. Heck add a 1 Mill roster bonus for the final year, 2010 to make it a total of 20 Mill. Or 500K roster bonus for the 2009 and 2010 seasons each.

Isn't there some way to make 16 of the 19 million count on next years cap?

That way we can have more caproom for the 09 free agent class.

I think he'll get 4 years for around $24M to $26M range. Look for at least $14M in guarantees.

Last year steinbach gave cleveland a hometown discount - 7 years, $49.5M with $23M in guarantees ........ this deal was larger than hutchinsons

Dielman signed 6 years, $39M with $17M in guarantees

I think the only thing hurting faneca is his age - but honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if he shoots higher than my estimates given the quality of his play and the fact that interior lineman can have pretty effective long careers

I'd do it and I hate most big money free agents. He fits too well here not to do it.

Naw. Very good run blocker. Average to below average pass blocker, in my opinion. Yes, getting up in years.

Knows the whole system here already and likes the coaches.

If it takes what you think it will to sign him, both in years and dollars, he's not worth it. Maybe your microsoft owner will afford him. Or Dan Snyder.
