Your question is a little misleading. In the poll it says "Best Vocalist", but in the thread it says "Favorite Singer"

IMO, Hagar was a much better vocalist, but Roth was probably my favorite front-man for the band.

I toTaLlY aGrEE, jW7. DaViD lEe ROtH was a much better frontman and the band was wild then. Hagar came in and Van Halen became, I guess I would call it very "corporate rock" sounding. It didn't sound very fresh or new like Van Halen I or VH II.

It's hard to compare DLR-Van Halen with Sammy-Van Halen because they're so damn different. I like 'em both for different reasons.

BTW - Van Halen (with Sammy) is getting back together. Announcement is expected literally anyday now.

You're kidding?

Wow. I guess Eddie needed some money.

Van Hagar was the best (Sammy as lead). Far better singer and added another guitar. I never appreciated DLR antics.

Anyone plan on attending Van Halen's concert on 8/5 at America West Arena or any other of their stops (based on the state in you live in)?

I read on how Sammy is open to performing David Lee Roth era tunes, and is even excited about it.....

Gak! I FULLY expected a unanimous decision in the way of DLR. Diamond Dave was hands down the best singer of this band. They wrote their best music with him in front and he played it to the fullest. Sammy Hagar has a great voice, and he ripped as the frontman for Montrose, but was a wussy ass band VH became after DLR left. Straight up wussy crap. Sorry, but it's true and I CANNOT be swayed.

Any sort of VH reunion is a mockery, too. Old dudes need to give it up. Unless of course, you're AC/DC and you continue to put out non stop ball breaking r-n-r records for 30 years...

Sammy. I know the Van Halen purists (such as my ex) might hurt me for that, but DLR is a complete freak nowadays. Both were great, in their own way, and took the band to places they wouldn't have reached without them. Right Here, Right Now, is my favorite VH album, so I'll have to go with Sammy. I have/had them all on tape and cd...and heard them all too many times to count.

I prefer the instrumentals, so I'd vote neither if that were an option. Guess I'll have to pick DLR just because he was the original.

Anyone hear the DLR album that came out late last year that was VH songs done blue grass style? I saw him perform "Jump" on some TV show and it was so bad I actually felt sorry for him.

I heard the album and it was so, so, so bad.... :(

I like 'em both for different reasons. The two singers fronted very different sounding bands, IMO, so it's hard to compare.
