Shane van Gisbergen delivered another road course masterclass Sunday, dominating the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway to earn his second NASCAR Cup Series victory of the 2026 season.

The Trackhouse Racing driver led 76 of the race’s 110 laps and rarely looked threatened, holding off Chase Briscoe by 1.128 seconds while Ty Gibbs completed the podium in third. The victory further cemented Van Gisbergen’s status as NASCAR’s premier road course racer and moved him within one road course win of tying Jeff Gordon for the most in Cup Series history.

Shane van Gisbergen Continues His Road Course Dominance

Van Gisbergen controlled the race late, leading a race-high 74 of 110 laps and pulling away after the final pit cycle. Ty Gibbs swept the opening two stages from the pole and led 31 laps before finishing third.

Briscoe mounted the strongest challenge in the final run but was unable to close the gap as Van Gisbergen secured his second victory of the season after previously winning at Watkins Glen. Gibbs crossed the line third, followed by Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell to round out the top five.

With another dominant road course performance, Van Gisbergen now sits just one victory shy of matching Jeff Gordon for the most NASCAR Cup Series road course wins.

Denny Hamlin finished 26th, but it was enough to move into the NASCAR Cup Series regular-season points lead after Tyler Reddick suffered a power steering failure early in the race. The mechanical problem forced Reddick multiple laps behind the field before he ultimately finished 36th.

The dramatic swing gives Hamlin the championship lead heading into next weekend, while Reddick will look to rebound after one of the toughest afternoons of his season.e afternoon at the front of the field, leading the majority of the race while keeping challengers at bay on Sonoma’s demanding 1.99-mile road course.
