Honestly when that Mike is Mack Wilson the step down to replacement level isn’t the same as if you were replacing Fred Warner. If this defense is so fragile it can’t weather losing Mack Wilson the person to blame is the guy designing the defense.

There were plenty of opportunities to add a veteran to the defensive backs room. Garrett Williams was a third-year veteran entering this season. What are you even on about?
That’s not on the DC… that’s on MO. He’s the one putting the players on the team. The team did not replace KW from the year before. Which was okay but they really didn’t go out and get his replacement for a true Mike backer. I’m pretty sure Wilson was converted to the Mike backer.

Ever have one of your buddies break up with his girlfriend and afterwards everyone tells him how much better off he is because of how lame, psycho, dumb, and smelt of elderberries she was? Only for them to get back together two weeks later?

I wonder what the group chat’s been like for the last however-long-it’s-been.
There may have been some elderberries.

I'm sure he was very impressed when the Rams offense was torching our defense this past season. :p
Yeah, maybe ML is confused because of how good he felt every time he saw Rallis’s D when the Rams were shellacking us.

ML (thinking): “I wonder whom I should hire as my DC? Well, I feel really good whenever Nick Rallis is around…hmmm…that’s my choice!”

Do I think, for example, the new wide receiver coach from Minnesota has watched Arizona Cardinals wide receiver tape? No, no, I do not.

Is he probably cramming a bunch of tape over the next few weeks? Yes, I would guess so. But does that qualify him to give an opinion without working with any of the players? Over the staff in the building that have worked with them for several years? No.

This idea that you have imagined that by hiring later we're missing out on some valuable nuggets of position coach contributions to the draft is, like most of your takes on here, complete nonsense.

Now I'm sure Mike will have a lot of input when he gets to the draft, and I'm sure Mike will take some feedback from coaches once they've had a bunch of time to get up to speed. But that is more likely to be a DC saying this is a scheme I want, I need a guy that can do this, I've watched the tape, and I can't see this guy on the roster at the moment. There's still two months to do that though, so I'm not sure what you think we're missing out on at the combine.

The Rams, and I'm sure a bunch of other teams now, don't even attend the combine at all. I'm sure all the staff will be in place by the time pro days come around. Even then, I would imagine that most position coaches won't attend pro days; they normally leave that to scouts and FO. I think you have a mistaken impression of how much coaches, especially position coaches and coordinators, contribute to the draft.
You think position coaches interviewing for roles didn’t do their homework? Weird take.

In all honesty, how can anyone measure a coaches ability with 3rd and 4th stringers out there?

It just means they run it back with KM and JB now. We’re tanking without trying to tank ☹️
We largely had 8 starters for most of the season.

Seems like Kubiak is doing a similar thing in Las Vegas by promoting the old DL coach to DC and retaining a lot of the defensive staff.
So we are following the design of the raiders…great
