One of the Texas Tech football team's promising young offensive linemen will be sidelined for the 2027 season.

Tech coach Joey McGuire said Holton Hendrix will miss the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound sophomore from Lubbock-Cooper suffered the knee injury during spring practice. He'd been battling for a spot in the two-deep.

Hendrix played in three games last season as a redshirt freshman, all at right guard. He was in for a total of 49 snaps in Tech victories against Oklahoma State, Central Florida and West Virginia, according to Pro Football Focus, and did not allow a pressure. Two years ago as a true freshman, he played 21 total snaps in wins over North Texas and West Virginia and earned a 79.1 pass-blocking grade from PFF.

McGuire said in early April that Hendrix was competing for the top backup spot at right guard and getting some work with the first team. With Hendrix's injury, Tech's second-team right guard going into preseason practice is redshirt freshman Elias Gillen. The starter at that spot is Jordan Church, a junior transfer from Louisville.
