TORONTO - Entering this Sunday afternoon series finale against the Blue Jays, the first-place Yankees lead the AL with a plus-102 run differential.
They've kept up that pace with Aaron Judge (stress fracture, first right rib) out since June 2, and it's been 50 days since Giancarlo Stanton was in the Yanks' lineup.
Stanton was tracking toward a return later this week, but those plans changed when he encountered "a little bit of a setback,'' re-aggravating his strained right calf in a similar area, according to manager Aaron Boone.
Back in New York, Stanton will undergo "more tests over the next couple of days,'' said Boone. "It’s clearly going to slow him down a little bit. To what level, I don’t know yet.''
And with center fielder Trent Grisham (strained right hamstring) placed on the injured list Saturday, young outfielders Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones could get some run.
Jones is not in Sunday's lineup vs. lefty starter Patrick Corbin (opposed by the Yanks' Will Warren), but Boone didn't rule out the possibility of Jones starting against some lefties.
