The New York Yankees will have to hope that some teams become sellers over the next few months, as multiple clubs could really benefit New York. One team in particular is the Kansas City Royals, as they have multiple starting pitchers who can be a big help in New York.
One of them in particular is left-hander Kris Bubic, a 28-year-old out of California who has thrown the baseball at a rather high level over the past few years. Unfortunately, the Stanford product hasn't been great this year.
Because of that, the Yankees might be able to get him at a better price, as Bubic was one of the best starters in baseball over the past two seasons and proved that with a 2.67 ERA in 2024 and a 2.55 ERA in 2025.
Bleacher Report recently named him as a potential trade candidate for the Royals, and the Yankees should definitely see what they want for him if it ends up happening.
“It's tough to say which direction the Royals will go. They're three games below .500 with a minus-13 run differential, but they are right there in an American League that has been a hot mess.
“If they end up selling, though, Bubic is going to be quite the coveted name on the trade block. He has a 2.74 ERA in nearly 200 innings pitched since the beginning of 2024, and his salary is low enough that any team with designs of making the postseason could afford him for a couple of months,” Kerry Miller of BR wrote.
While Bubic has struggled a bit throughout the year, it's also fair to recognize that he likely isn't going to be had for cheap.
If the Yankees want him, they're going to have to move some decent prospects, though there could be some worries about that because he's a free agent in 2027. There's a possibility that helps the Yankees out, but the one-time All-Star should probably bring a decent return back to Kansas City.
