The New York Yankees have one of the richest histories in all of Major League Baseball, which makes any franchise record a significant accomplishment. On Tuesday night, another piece of Yankees history was made—and it came from one of the most unexpected stars of the 2026 season.
Reliever Brent Headrick has gone from an unlikely contributor to one of the most dependable arms in the Yankees’ bullpen. Now, he has his name alongside some of the greatest pitchers in franchise history.

Headrick has been one of the Yankees’ biggest surprises this season.
Through 61 appearances, the left-hander has posted a 6-1 record, 1.49 ERA, 73 strikeouts, and a 1.13 WHIP across 60.1 innings.
Those numbers would be impressive for any reliever, but Headrick has been particularly valuable for a Yankees team that has needed consistency from its pitching staff while dealing with injuries and offensive struggles.
Instead of simply filling a bullpen role, Headrick has become one of the team’s most reliable weapons.

Headrick’s performance Tuesday night allowed him to make franchise history.
His 51 scoreless appearances through the Yankees’ first 119 team games are now the most by any pitcher in franchise history at that point of a season.
That’s an incredible accomplishment considering the names that have worn the Yankees uniform over the decades.
Headrick wasn’t necessarily expected to be the player making history when the 2026 season began, but that’s exactly what makes his emergence so remarkable. The Yankees have relied heavily on their pitching staff throughout the season, and Headrick has consistently delivered when called upon.
With the postseason race heating up, having a reliever capable of entering games without allowing runs is an enormous advantage.
The Yankees have produced countless legendary pitchers throughout their history. Now, remarkably, Brent Headrick has carved out a small piece of that history for himself.
