Yankees now have perfect Aaron Judge replacement due to Cubs’ struggles originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
With the Major League Baseball trade deadline about two months away now, with it set at the beginning of August, the New York Yankees and other teams around the league are already looking to see what they could potentially get.
There are a few interesting names already available to the Yankees, and more should be on the way. Some teams in Major League Baseball are likely deciding whether to be buyers or sellers at the moment, with the Chicago Cubs among them.
The Cubs, who have multiple players who could be valuable to the Yankees, have one player who could make a lot of sense for New York. That player is Ian Happ, a switch-hitter who would fit in nicely in this Yankees lineup.
“For as divisive as Ian Happ is among some Cubs fans, I don’t think the league undervalues him at all. This season, he’s not hitting for average, but he’s getting on base, slugging, and playing his usual solid + defense in left field. He’s also a switch-hitter and a veteran. If a team needed outfield help, they would not hesitate to go after Happ,” Michael Cerami wrote.
With Aaron Judge sidelined at the moment, the Yankees need all the offensive help they can get.
Even when Judge is healthy and ready to go, which is expected to be in the back half of the season, Happ would be a nice addition to this lineup. I don't think he should cost too much either, considering he hits free agency at the end of the year, so I don't understand why the Yankees wouldn't be interested.
