Why Yankees' Aaron Judge hasn’t landed on the IL despite growing concern originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
New York Yankees superstar outfielder Aaron Judge missed his third consecutive game on Thursday due to a bone bruise in his right shoulder.
While the injury is a concern, its severity is unclear. The Yankees' medical staff is still unclear on how serious (or not) it could be. In the meantime, Judge went for an MRI on Wednesday night and completed a X-ray and CT scan on Thursday.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the team is still looking for a complete diagnosis.
“They want to get as many specific images as they can to try and see exactly what we have,” Boone said. “We’re waiting on the doctor to read those, and hopefully we’ll have a final diagnosis here [on Thursday].”
Boone also went on to say that Judge has been managing some discomfort in his right shoulder for the past few weeks.
“He describes that he’s feeling a little bit better,” Boone said. “He’s been treating it and started some medicine. But at the same time, we’re all waiting on -- what is it, what’s the course of action? That’s kind of where we all are.”
Will Aaron Judge go on the IL?
Boone said they are still " hoping there’s that chance," that Judge will not miss any games.
“I want to know, I think, as much or more than all of you,” Boone said.
While the timeline of the discomfort is clear, the specific play on when the discomfort began for Judge could not be identified.
The injury has been affecting Judge's play. Since May 11, Judge has collected a .206 average with one home run, eight RBIs and 19 strikeouts.
Overall, the seven-time All-Star has slashed .248/.375/.533 with a .907 OPS in 59 games and 261 plate appearances.
