With the New York Mets as obvious sellers, the Francisco Lindor trade rumors are starting to heat up.
SNY's Chelsea Janes reported that the possibility of a Lindor trade is "not off the table" for the Mets.
Trading the organization's longtime shortstop would be a drastic shift from the current core of New York's roster, outside of Juan Soto.
If the Mets do wind up trading Lindor, would the New York Yankees be a fit?
Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer proposed the following trade idea between the two crosstown rivals:
New York Yankees Receive: SS Francisco Lindor
New York Mets Receive: LHP Carlos Rodon, SS Anthony Volpe, OF Jasson Dominguez
"And in this deal, they'd get Lindor for what amounts to a bucket of spare parts. The point is debatable on Rodón even amid an injury-plagued year, but Volpe's future in The Bronx has gotten murky while Domínguez's is just plain no longer visible," Rymer wrote.
Volpe's time in the Bronx may be coming to an end sooner rather than later. He's shown little to no improvement at the plate since his rookie season.
Plus, the Yankees could move top prospect George Lombard Jr. to second base if they don't plan to reconnect with Jazz Chisholm Jr. during the offseason.

"Beyond the one about whether the city of New York could handle a trade of this magnitude, the question at hand here is this: Do the Yankees want to bank on George Lombard Jr. at shortstop next year, or do they want to act now?" Rymer added.
Lindor is still a highly productive player when healthy. He hit 31 or more homers and had an OPS of .806 or higher in each season from 2023-25.
His contract may be a lot to obtain, but it shouldn't be as much of a problem for the Yankees as it would be for other clubs.
