The New York Mets are very likely to be major sellers at the MLB trade deadline this summer. Considering how they came into the season, this trade deadline plan is very disappointing.

But who actually could be on the move? Freddy Peralta is obviously someone who could be dealt, but what about Francisco Lindor, whose name has come up in trade rumors lately?

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel, the Mets' odds to trade Lindor are somehow greater than the Minnesota Twins' odds to trade away Byron Buxton at this year's deadline.

"12. Francisco Lindor, SS, New York Mets. Chance of being traded: 15%," Passan and McDaniel project. "2. Byron Buxton, CF, Minnesota Twins. Chance of being traded: 10%."

Passan and McDaniel give the Mets a 15% chance of trading away Lindor this summer. The Twins have just a 10% chance of trading Buxton this summer.

Lindor, the Mets franchise shortstop in the middle of a 10-year, $341 million contract through the 2031 season, is not likely to be traded this summer.

But, somehow, his odds of being dealt are greater than Buxton's. Considering the Twins are closer to a postseason spot than the Mets, it shouldn't be a huge surprise that Lindor has a higher chance of being traded.

However, with all the trade rumors in the last year or so about Buxton, seeing Lindor's odds of being traded higher than Buxton's is a bit of a surprise.

Mets fans shouldn't expect to see Lindor traded away. But, ESPN is projecting that Mets fans are more likely to see Lindor on the move to a new team this summer than Twins fans are to see Buxton dealt.

It's an interesting projection that might not mean much, as both aren't likely to be dealt. But, even just that 5% chance more that Lindor could be traded this season is much higher than most Mets fans would've expected coming into the year.

The 32-year-old shortstop isn't likely to leave the Mets, but the fanbase should prepare to see Lindor go, as his odds of being dealt at the deadline are at 15%, and those odds are only likely to increase after the 2026 season comes to a close.
