It's no secret that the New York Yankees are searching for a catcher before next week's Major League Baseball trade deadline.
One name that's been mentioned dozens of times: Ryan Jeffers of the Minnesota Twins.
The Yankees need a right-handed bat and a little more power without Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. Jeffers, who crushes lefties, could provide both.
Despite months of rumors, the Twins may be holding on to Jeffers. The AL Central club's victory on Tuesday brought them to .500 on the year.
Twins are unlikely to trade Jeffers
“In terms of individual speculation, I don’t think it’s particularly productive to work through all that,” Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll told reporters, including MLB.com's Matthew Leach yesterday
. “But what I’ll say is on Ryan specifically, he’s had an awesome year," Zoll added. "We’re really excited about where he’s at, and looking forward to doing everything we can to keep the group together and put us in the best spot to keep pushing ahead.”

Based on Zoll's comments, it sounds like Jeffers is staying in Minnesota. That eliminates one candidate from the Yankees' potential list.
Other catchers who could be moved before the deadline include Hunter Goodman from the Colorado Rockies, Tyler Stephenson from the Cincinnati Reds, and Liam Hicks from the Miami Marlins.
Stephenson may be New York's best bet. Colorado's asking price for Goodman will be steep, and Hicks hits from the left side.
