The New York Yankees are a team that's always going to be linked to some of the top trade targets around MLB whenever one becomes available.

This year, Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers, the back-to-back Cy Young winner, is someone who is garnering plenty of trade interest right now. He's also being linked to the Yankees this summer despite not having a huge need in the rotation.

However, MLB.com's Travis Sawchik handed the Yankees an unfortunate outlook on a Skubal trade, as they aren't the top suitors in a deal, thanks in part to Aaron Judge.

How Yankees are not top trade suitor for Tarik Skubal thanks to Aaron Judge

"If we knew Aaron Judge was going to be 100% in October, one could push the Yankees up this list," Sawchik writes. "Even with the injury, New York is second in FanGraphs World Series-winning chances (14.3%)."

Sawchik named the Yankees as the fourth-best landing spot for Skubal in a trade based on these three parameters: "The elite division leader; The 'one ace away' juggernaut; and Teams with a closing window."

The Yankees aren't exactly one ace away, nor do they have a closing World Series window with some young players showing promise. They might be a division leader, or at least a contender for the spot, plus a bye, so that makes them a good fit for Skubal.

Skubal would be an incredible pickup for the Yankees, even though the cost is going to be very high. He'd make the Yankees' rotation the best in MLB easily, and help make up for the lackluster bullpen.

However, Sawchik is ranking the Yankees as the fourth-best landing spot, behind the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Milwaukee Brewers, thanks in part to Judge's injury.

If the Yankees' superstar were healthy, then the Yankees might be more inclined to go all-in. But, since he's banged up, spending all of their resources on this season's World Series run might be a bit of a waste if Judge isn't 100%.

Judge being healthy is imperative to their World Series odds, so if he's not fully healthy, then it would be a lot riskier for the Yankees to add Skubal in what might not be their best chance to win it all.
