The Boston Red Sox took on the New York Yankees at Fenway Park on Thursday night, and Michael Kay had some thoughts on Red Sox fans while the Yankees were trailing.

The Red Sox ended up winning the game 6-3, and in the eighth inning were chanting "Yankees suck," hanging on to a 4-3 lead at the time. This is nothing new at Fenway Park when the Yankees come to visit. The two teams are bitter rivals, and the fan bases go at each other often. However, Kay seemed to take exception on Thursday.

"It's really strange that the crowd is chanting that old chant that they have here," Kay said in the eighth inning. "I guess the standings on the left field board, they can't see those."

The Red Sox currently sit in last place in the American League East standings, but they are not dead just yet. They are five games out of a wild-card spot, and a lot has to go right for them to make a real push, but it's not impossible. A five game defecit in the wild card standings is not easy to overcome, but it has been done in the past.

Obviously, no Red Sox fan expected the team to be in this position when the season started. However, all they can do now is try to dig themselves out of this hole. A win over the Yankees, with Cam Schlittler on the mound, is a step in the right direction. A series win could be the start of a run.
