A few offseasons ago, the New York Yankees made the massive investment into Aaron Judge despite heated interest from the San Francisco Giants.
Judge and the Yankees agreed to a $400 million deal across the next nine seasons, a huge contract, but one that's proven to be more than worth it for the Yankees already.
ESPN's Bradford Doolittle, after just a couple of seasons, already has this Judge deal as a top-15 free agent signing in MLB history, and it's only going to keep climbing up this ranking.

"Judge has a 207 OPS+ and 151 homers since signing this deal. And that includes this season, which is just getting started," Doolittle writes. "This deal lands at No. 14 now, but it's going to keep climbing for years to come."
Doolittle has a Judge's $400 million, nine-year deal to re-sign with the Yankees in free agency over the Giants as the 14th best free agent signing in MLB history since players could officially sign as free agents back in 1976.
Judge is just starting in this deal, which began in 2023. He's proving to be one of the best hitters in MLB history, and if he keeps up this level of play for the rest of this deal, this free agent deal might be able to lay claim to the best ever, or at least top-5 all-time.

Since signing this deal back in 2023, Judge has put up some truly remarkable seasons. He has 151 home runs, 25.7 bWAR, 467 hits, 83 doubles, three triples, and two MVP awards in 2024 and 2025.
Judge doesn't look to be slowing down either, as he's still one of the best hitters in baseball, and has league-leading home-run upside with decent odds to win MVP again this season.
It's only been three seasons since signing this free agent deal, but Judge is already proving to be one of the best ever, and a few more good seasons on this deal, and he could be an all-time free agent signing that cracks the top-10, and potentially the top-5.
