DETROIT - Here at Comerica Park, the home office for Tarik Skubal trade speculation, suddenly the Detroit Tigers have won three straight games.
Skubal is scheduled to pitch against the Yankees in Wednesday night's series finale.
Coming off a sweep of the Chicago White Sox (a team the Yanks took two of three against last week in the Bronx), the Tigers send a familiar Yankee foe to the mound in ex-Astros lefty Framber Valdez (3-5, 4.09) for Monday's series opener.
The Yankees counter with ace Gerrit Cole (2-1, 2.57), making his sixth start of the year and going on an extra day of rest, after manager Aaron Boone and staff decided to build in some added days for his staff.
Dating to last Tuesday, the Yankees are in a stretch of playing 16 straight games, with just one scheduled off day (July 2) until the All-Star break.
To facilitate that, Elmer Rodriguez was called up for Sunday's start (and optioned after the game).
Prior to tonight's game, the Yankees have recalled righty reliever Yerry de los Santos, who has pitched effectively in two previous call-ups this season (2 games, 5.1 IP, 1 earned run).
The Yanks won't see old friend Gleyber Torres this series; the second baseman went on the injured list last week due to an oblique strain.
