The New York Yankees were running out of outs on Tuesday night against the A's when Giancarlo Stanton hit one of the weirdest line drives you'll ever see.
It was a knuckleball -- no, not the pitch, but the batted ball itself.
It totally fooled Athletics shortstop Jacob Wilson, who went one way only for the ball to flicker back the other direction.
Watch this -- it doesn't make a ton of sense:

It was a crucial hit, too. The Yankees were down 3-1 at the time and went on to win 5-3.
While it might seem an impossible ball flight, it's clearly not impossible. Stanton did it.
Just like a pitcher can manage to throw a ball with very little spin that is then buffeted around the air in an unpredictable way on the way to home plate, a hitter can do it to a batted ball. It's just incredibly unlikely.
Stanton has a swing like few players in baseball history, though, for its potency, speed and bat path. Maybe that helped make this happen.
Whatever the reason, the Yankees weren't complaining.
Stanton took a solid swing in a key moment and got a little fortunate, too. The Yankees won because of it.
