WASHINGTON – There's a lot of "wait and see" surrounding some of the Milwaukee Brewers' key contributors.

Outfielder Jackson Chourio, who was expected to return to the lineup on May 4 when the team opens a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium, now finds himself in a holding pattern after hitting a ball off his left foot in a minor-league rehab game at Class AAA Nashville on May 2.

"Fouled the ball off his left ankle and missed (his protective guard)," manager Pat Murphy said. "And you know, those things can be very painful. We got an X-ray on it right away and thank God it's negative.

"We've got to see how he progresses. Today's going to be a critical day."

Chourio has been out all season while recovering from a hairline fracture in his left hand.

First baseman Andrew Vaughn, also in Nashville on rehab as he recovered from left hand surgery, remains on track to be reinstated from the injured list Monday.

Jacob Misiorowski, meanwhile, reported no issues after doing his running program on May 2, the day after he was forced to leave an active no-hitter in the sixth inning with what was diagnoses as a right hamstring cramp.

What happens May 3 and 4 will be crucial in determining next steps for the right-hander. Chad Patrick and Brandon Sproat are scheduled to start those nights in St. Louis, while Milwaukee is not currently listing a probable starter for the finale on May 5.

"We're going to have to see how it responds," Murphy said. "Today's a catch day. We'll see where he's at today and then we'll have more information going forward.

"He feels like he's OK, but he hasn't done the work yet to test it to see."

Murphy also confirmed that left-hander Angel Zerpa is considering whether or not to undergo Tommy John surgery. He was placed on the injured list last week with forearm tightness that Murphy had deemed at the time "highly concerning."
