The Washington State Cougars‘ bowl fate has been set. They will play the Utah State Aggies in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on December 22nd in Boise, Idaho. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00am PST.

This will be WSU’s 20th bowl game in program history, their first time appearing in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Utah State has appeared in the game the most, with this being their sixth trip now. They hold a 1-4 record in the game and lost their last appearance in 2023 to Georgia State, 45-22.

Of course WSU will be without their head coach Jimmy Rogers and will have defensive coordinator Jesse Bobbit serve as the interim coach for the game.

It’s an all-future Pac-12 bowl, with Utah State joining the Pac-12 next year and the game being played at the home of Boise State, another future conference member.

This is the sixth time Washington State and Utah State have played each other, dating all the way back to 1949. WSU won the previous meeting last season 49-28. They have never met in a bowl game.

The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl has been played annually since 1997. It was originally named the Humanitarian Bowl. Coincidentally, Utah State played in that inaugural game, losing to Cincinnati 35-19. The Idaho Potato Commission became the sponsor of the game in 2011.

The Cougars will hope to secure their first bowl win since Gardner Minshew outdueled Brock Purdy in the 2018 Alamo Bowl.
