The World Cup final will feature a halftime show for the first time, extending the standard halftime break.
FIFA match halftime breaks last 15 minutes. But in order to accommodate the 11-minute halftime show, Sunday's break is planned to last 20 minutes, FIFA told The Athletic.
It could take even longer. Last year's Club World Cup final featured a 24-minute halftime break to accommodate a 10-minute-plus music performance on a stage tucked into the stands. This time, the stage will be set up on the pitch.
Last year, while staff dismantled the stage in the stands, players were already warming up on the pitch.
For reference, a Super Bowl halftime break typically lasts 25 to 30 minutes, with the halftime show lasting about 15 minutes.
Curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, the show will feature global stars like Madonna, Shakira, Justin Bieber, and K-pop band BTS.
The show will support FIFA's Global Citizen Education Fund, an organization founded in 2025 that seeks to expand access to education and football opportunities for children.
The performance is intended to convey "a powerful message of unity and hope to billions of people worldwide," said FIFA president Gianni Infantino
FIFA has confirmed Justin Bieber, Shakira, BTS and Madonna will perform. Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor Gustavo Dudamel is also listed as a participant, as well as Public School 22 Chorus from Staten Island.
According to a release, Chris Martin will join the award-winning children's chorus.
The show will also feature characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets.
FIFA has not confirmed the participation of any artist other than those in official statements.
However, betting odds favor an appearance of Sabrina Carpenter, likely because Madonna’s new album includes a song featuring her, and the two recently performed together at Coachella.
Meanwhile, the newly released album also includes a song featuring Colombian reggaeton artist Feid. Madonna’s Instagram account posted the song, and the caption reads “@fifaworldcup version.”
The advisory board includes FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Global Citizen CEO Hugh Evans, Shakira, Australian actor Hugh Jackman, Ivanka Trump, The Weeknd, Serena Williams, Brazilian former football player Kaká, and Bank of America Co-President Jim DeMare.
The show will be broadcast live by Fox, Telemundo and Peacock. The kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m., and the first half lasts 45 minutes, plus added time for stoppages and hydration breaks.
