World Cup ticket buyers are feeling hard done by FIFA’s seat sales, believing that they are not getting the seats that they bought.
FIFA has been selling World Cup tickets like gangbusters, with more than 3 million tickets sold ahead of the global tournament.
The tickets were sold into specific categories, with four categories available to buy during the sale window.
There was a lottery process to buy tickets in the first place, and then fans would need to pick one of four categories for where they would be open to sitting, rather than selling exact tickets.

However, according to an investigation by The Athletic, fans have reported receiving tickets for seats that do not belong to their category.
“A lot of people feel misled, or confused, or maybe just generally let down about the way seats were assigned,” Jordan Likover, a fan who bought a Category 1 ticket and got a Category 2 ticket.
“You can’t change the rules of the game after someone’s played,” he said. “Like, people paid expecting to be seated in one place. And then when they were assigned [seats], it’s changed.”
In response, FIFA said that the category maps were made “to help fans understand where their seats could be located within a stadium. These maps were designed to provide guidance rather than the exact seat layout, and reflect the general extent of each ticket category within the stadium.”
According to the report, fans are filing complaints and considering legal action.
Likover is just one of many fans who are upset about the handling of the tickets, and he was actually one of the customers who submitted a comment to FIFA via the contact form.
“I paid for Product A, technically I’ve been given Product B. Is there any recourse?” he asked. “Will you fully refund the difference?”
