World Cup 2026 is now just nine days away and will be the biggest ever edition of the tournament as 48 teams go for glory in the USA, Mexico and Canada.

There are 16 more teams than in 2022 in Qatar which means 104 matches, an additional knockout round and plenty of new faces.

Uzbekistan, Jordan, Cape Verde and Curacao have all made it to the World Cup for the very first time and will be hoping to make the most of their appearance on the biggest stage of all.

Teams such as Norway, Scotland and Turkiye are also back after long absences and fans from across the globe will be relishing the chance of seeing their teams in action.

However, there has been criticism of the decision to expand the World Cup. There are fears that the quality will be diluted and it will increase the strain on players already struggling with a congested fixture schedule.
