Brittney Griner made headlines this offseason when she signed with the Connecticut Sun, a franchise that has clearly entered a rebuilding phase.
Entering Saturday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Sparks, the Sun sat at 1-8 on the season, while Griner had started just three games due to a rib strain that sidelined her during the early part of the year.
When available, however, she has remained productive, averaging 15.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
Griner scored nine points in the first half against Los Angeles and, in the process, joined an exclusive group in WNBA history.
Early in the second quarter, following a made basket, it was announced that Griner had reached 6,000 career field goals made, becoming just the 18th player in league history to achieve the milestone.

WNBA fans quickly reacted to the milestone on social media.
“LEGEND!! BG HOW I LOVE YOU!” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Her story.”
“Congratulations,” a third fan commented.
“Breaking records,” another posted.

Unfortunately for Griner, the milestone came alongside another injury setback.
Griner suffered an eye injury during the first half and was forced to head to the locker room before halftime. According to reports, she did not return with the Connecticut Sun when the team came back out for the second half, adding another unfortunate chapter to her 13th WNBA season.
