With new addition Rickea Jackson lost to a season ending injury, can the Chicago Sky continue to find a winning groove?

Chicago Sky forward Rickea Jackson will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL. She went down with a non-contact injury during the game against the Minnesota Lynx last Sunday.

Jackson underwent an MRI afterward and will undergo surgery at a later date.

Here’s what general manager Jeff Pagliocca said about Jackson:

We’re devastated that Rickea suffered this injury, but we are confident she will make a full recovery.

Rickea was playing at an All-Star and All-Defensive level early in the season. We are certain she was primed for a career year. Our world-class medical staff will work hard with Rickea, who is one of the toughest players in the league, to get her back on the court.

Rickea Jackson underwent an MRI that revealed a left torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury she sustained in the May 17 game against Minnesota. Jackson will miss the remainder of the 2026 WNBA season and undergo surgery to repair the injury.

The Sky are off to a strong start to the season. They are 3-1, tied for the second best record in the league with the New York Liberty, and coming off a convincing win over the Lynx, 86-79. Jackson played 11 minutes and finished with six points, a rebound and an assist while shooting 3-for-6 from the field.

The Sky will take on the Dallas Wings in their season home opener on Wednesday, May 20.

Jackson was one of the top additions to a revitalized Sky roster, which includes Natasha Cloud, Skylar Diggins, DiJonai Carrington, Azurá Stevens and Gabriela Jaquez. She is coming off a season with the Los Angeles Sparks in which she achieved career highs in scoring (18.0), rebounds (4.8), assists (2.0) and blocks (1.8).

Jackson was the Sky’s leading scorer, averaging 22.0 points per game before her injury. She was the leading scorer in two of their first three games. Jackson scored 18 points, while registering five rebounds and five assists, in the Sky’s 69-63 win over the Golden State Valkyries on May 13. She scored 29 points and dished out six assists in the 91-83 loss to the Phoenix Mercury on May 17.

Although the Sky still have a roster filled with talent and budding potential, injuries remain an issue.

Carrington is out with a foot injury. Stevens is battling a knee problem. Courtney Vandersloot is recovering from an ACL injury she sustained last June, which ended her season. None of the three have played this season.
