The No. 5 Wisconsin Badgers led 15-5 in the first half, but No. 12 High Point didn't let it phase them.
The Panthers kept things interesting until the final whistle. Wisconsin seemed to be in control in the second half until Chase Johnston, who hadn't made a two-point field goal all year, made a transition layup that gave High Point an 83-82 lead with 11.7 seconds left.
Nick Boyd, who's been the Badgers go-to guy all year long, failed to come up with a bucket. High Point secured the rebound but missed their first free throw in a bonus situation.
Head coach Greg Gard drew up one final play during the Badgers’ final timeout. With 1.8 seconds remainin, they heaved a long ball to the Panthers to end it. All year long, Wisconsin had been praised for their lack of turnovers, but this is what sealed the deal.
83-82 was the final in Oregon as Wisconsin's season was cut short once again. This is a fate Badgers fans are all too familiar with, as getting out of the first weekend has once again eluded them. This time, they failed to win a single game in the NCAA Tournament.
Coming off a year where Boyd and John Blackwell played so well, this is an extremely tough pill to swallow. Wisconsin fell to the dreaded No. 12 vs. No. 5 upset, something many saw coming due to how much of a roll the Panthers had been on. Everyone expected a shootout, and that's exactly how it played out, just not in Wisconsin's favor.
