Wisconsin football landed a commitment from Missouri State transfer tight end Lance Mason on Friday.

The Football Championship Subdivision standout just recently visited the program on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Wisconsin was reportedly in contention with Cal and Oklahoma for the tight end's commitment, both programs that also had reportedly scheduled visits.

Mason is now the Badgers' third addition of the spring transfer window, following Purdue long snapper Nick Levy and Southern Illinois quarterback Hunter Simmons.

The tight entered the portal after three years at Missouri State. He tallied 22 receptions, 210 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman and sophomore before breaking out as a junior in 2024, catching 34 passes for 590 receiving yards, a team-high 17.4 yards per reception and six touchdowns. That output earned Mason the title of ProFootballFocus' highest-graded FCS receiving tight end.

Mason joins the Badgers as a three-star transfer prospect, ranked as the No. 833 overall player in the portal and No. 42 tight end. At the time of his commitment, he was the portal's fourth-highest-ranked uncommitted transfer at his position.

Mason is a write-in to fill Wisconsin's starting tight end position. The role became vacant when winter transfer addition Tanner Koziol departed via the portal, eventually committing to Houston. The position is set to play an integral role in the success of Jeff Grimes' offense in his first year with the program.

After Mason's addition, Wisconsin has remaining needs at starting left tackle and depth wide receiver. The former is the far more important need, though it may be challenging to fill at this late stage of the cycle.
