Men’s Lacrosse (2-1)
The men’s lacrosse team never trailed in a 13-7 demolition of No. 3 Princeton last Saturday. Penn State raced out to a 7-1 lead in the first quarter, with only Luke Walstrum scoring more than one goal. Eight different players scored a goal for Penn State, a testament to the depth being built early in the season. Hunter Aquino recorded a hat trick, and Preston Hawkins made 11 saves in net.
Penn State will travel to Annapolis to take on Navy on Saturday (noon).
Women’s Hockey (29-5)
Penn State lost just its second conference game when they fell 3-2 in overtime to RIT, but the Nittany Lions responded with a 4-2 win in Game 2. The team had already secured the AHA regular season title. Kendall Butze had three points in the Game 2 win, and Katelyn Roberts reached the 100-point plateau for her career. Grace Outwater recorded her 24th goal of the season, good for fourth among all NCAA skaters.
Penn State will host the semifinal round of the AHA tournament next Friday (6pm) and Saturday (3pm). The opponent is TBA at the time of posting, and a third game will be played if necessary on Sunday, March 1.
Women’s Lacrosse (4-0)
The women’s lacrosse team is off to a solid 4-0 start with a 21-9 win over Bucknell and a thrilling 12-11 overtime win over Pitt. Rocquette Allen scored five goals in the win over Bucknell, one of 12 different goal scorers for the Nittany Lions.
Allen scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Pitt to secure Penn State’s first ranked win of the regular season. The Nittany Lions blew an 11-6 lead entering the fourth quarter but held on to force overtime and eventually potted the game-winner. Emma Kelly recorded her first hat trick of the season to lead the offense.
Penn State will travel to Philadelphia to take on Drexel on Sunday (noon).
Men’s Volleyball (8-4)
The men’s volleyball team secured two road wins over Princeton. In the first match, Penn State outlasted the Tigers in five sets behind Sean Harvey’s 22 kills and Gaige Gabriel’s 10 blocks. The second match was a sweep, although all three sets were tight. Tristan Hassell had 17 kills and two aces, and Michael Schwob added 35 assists and eight digs.
Penn State will host Harvard tonight (6pm on Big Ten Plus) and Saturday (3pm on Big Ten Plus).
Women’s Basketball (9-17)
The women’s basketball team won its second Big Ten game with an 81-71 win over Northwestern at Rec Hall. A 36-22 lead at halftime was good enough for the Lady Lions in this one. Kiyomi McMiller (30 points, 12 rebounds) and Gracie Merkle (19 points, 11 rebounds) both had a double-double to lead the way. As a team, Penn State out-rebounded Northwestern 45-28.
Penn State will travel to Rutgers on Sunday (4pm on BTN) and host USC on Wednesday (6pm on Big Ten Plus).
