The winningest coach in Oak Harbor softball history returns to the helm, pending board approval.

Chris Rawski is back. He was the first to coach the Rockets in a matchup at state and regional, and Oak Harbor won 36 consecutive games in the Sandusky Bay Conference between 2016 and 2019.

The Rockets were 206-90 from 2012-2022. Oak Harbor didn't skip a beat in his absence as coach Cami Haas advanced to state twice and won two conference championships.

High school softball The standard for Oak Harbor softball is to answer the challenge

Rawski was the first to win 20 games in a season and did so five times, including a program-best 29 in 2017. Haas won at least 22 games in each of four seasons.

"She took the program to another level and I feel a huge responsibility to maintain that," Rawski said. "Winning took another step in consistency."

Rawski kept up with the Rockets and was a trusted advisor for Haas.

"She took a program and elevated it," he said. "I'm fortunate we were able to communicate and bounce ideas. I appreciate that; being a little part as she was navigating through. Looking at something I love from the outside and knowing it was well taken care of.

"The roles are reversed. I'll be asking her. The two transitions, from me to her and from her to me feel seamless and that's incredible. You don't get that often."

Morgan LaLonde returns in the circle as a senior for Rawski. She was honorable mention all-state as a junior.

"It's not just her," Rawski said. "The program and the players and the players coming up will continue to be great. That's the tradition that's been built."

Rawski's hiatus coincided with sports in high school for daughter, Morgan, and son, Wyatt, at Lake. He and wife, Alisa, enjoyed time with family.

He knows what he's getting into and Oak Harbor knows what it's getting. Both loved the first go around.

"I had the opportunity to come back and be part of something special," Rawski said.
