The Philadelphia Eagles' decision to trade A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots for two draft picks, including a first-round selection, sent shockwaves throughout the NFL.
As with any blockbuster deal, there are clear winners and losers.
The Patriots spent the offseason searching for a true No. 1 receiver. They found one. Brown immediately becomes the most accomplished and dangerous weapon of Maye's young career and gives New England's franchise quarterback a proven All-Pro capable of changing games on his own.
Vrabel is reunited with the receiver who helped fuel some of the best seasons of his tenure with the Tennessee Titans. The Patriots coach gets a player he knows, trusts, and believes can help establish the culture he wants in New England.
The Eagles general manager once again demonstrated his willingness to make difficult decisions. Philadelphia acquired a first-round pick, gained significant salary-cap flexibility, and positioned itself for future roster-building opportunities.
Smith now becomes the unquestioned No. 1 receiver in Philadelphia. The former Heisman Trophy winner should see an increase in targets and opportunities as the focal point of the passing attack.
Hurts loses one of the NFL's best receivers and his most trusted target. While the Eagles still have talent at wide receiver, replacing Brown's production and impact won't be easy.
Trading a player responsible for more than 5,000 receiving yards, 32 touchdowns, and two Super Bowl appearances is never easy. Brown became one of the most popular players in Philadelphia during his four-year run.
Winner: The NFC East
The division no longer has to face Brown in Eagles colors, and his departure removes one of the conference's biggest stars from one of its most compelling rivalries.
Winner: The Patriots
This one is simple.
New England acquired a legitimate superstar. The Eagles may ultimately win the trade long term if the draft picks become impact players, but today, the Patriots have the player every team covets: an elite No. 1 receiver in his prime.
