Sep. 29—MITCHELL — Led by a strong outing from Jalen Tideman, the Winner boys golf team hung on to earn a first-place finish in the Region 3A meet on Monday at Lakeview Golf Course.
The Warriors posted a cumulative score of 332 to win the team title by one stroke over runner-up Parkston (333), marking their second-straight title in Mitchell. Chamberlain came in third place with a score of 337, also beating out Mount Vernon/Plankinton by one stroke (338). The top-three teams and the top 17 golfers earned spots in the Class A state tournament.
Tideman came home in third place individually with a round of 6-over-78 on Lakeview's par-72 layout, carding three birdies. Winner's Cooper Craven shot 8-over-80 for a fifth-place tie, while teammate Carter Craven finished tied for seventh with an 82.
MVP's Trysten Eide and Parkston's Landon Weber shared top medalist honors, both shooting a round of 3-over-75. Eide carded four birdies — three on the front-nine holes — as Weber concluded with three. Chamberlain's London Houska rounded out the top-five golfers with an 80, tying with Cooper Craven at the fifth spot.
Also qualifying for the state tournament among area athletes were Parkston's Kelby Neugebauer (81), MVP's Hudson Schmidt (82), Chamberlain's Chase McQuirk (82), Chamberlain's Cannon Speer (85) and Parkston's Cohen Bowar (85).
The Class A state boys championship begins on Monday, Oct. 6, at The Bluffs Golf Course in Vermillion.
