Arike Ogunbowale has spent her entire career with the Dallas Wings.

Over her eight years with the franchise, Ogunbowale has been selected to four All-Star Games and has become the Wings' all-time top scorer. She won a scoring title in 2020 and is a three-time All-WNBA selection.

But as Ogunbowale pointed out on Monday, she has never actually represented Dallas in the WNBA. That's because, since the Wings drafted her in 2019, the team has played at tiny College Park Center in nearby Arlington.

That all will change in 2027, when the Wings will move to city-owned American Airlines Center.

The Wings will share the arena with the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, and it marks the start of a new era in Wings basketball for a franchise that has perpetually struggled for consistency.

Over the years, the Wings have been unable to keep top players in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, a byproduct of the franchise's instability. Skylar Diggins, Allisha Gray and Satou Sabally are only a few of the All-Stars who asked out of Dallas in recent years.

But Ogunbowale has stayed, and she's now reaping the rewards.

A young core led by Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd has the Wings on track for their best season in nearly 20 years. Dallas is fourth in the WNBA with a 19-11 record, and the best may well be yet to come.

Moving to Dallas proper is the next step in the Wings' evolution as a franchise, which Ogunbowale summarized neatly in quotes to the Dallas Morning News.

"We’re the Dallas Wings, at the end of the day. We’re not the Arlington Wings," she said. "Being actually in the city, in the culture, that’s going to be really good."
