Wilson Central football wasted no time in its search for a new coach.
Less than a week after former coach Ben Kuhn announced his resignation, the Wildcats have elevated assistant Josh Knipfel to the head role, the program confirmed in a May 28 post on X.
Knipfel becomes the seventh football coach to lead Wilson Central, with the program coming off of a 5-5 campaign in 2025.

Knipfel is an Iowa native who played three seasons as an offensive lineman at Iowa State between 2017-2019. He started 39 consecutive games to end his Cyclones career and was an All-Big 12 honorable mention in his final season.
Knipfel spent the past three seasons coaching offensive line, defensive ends, as well as strength and conditioning coach on Kuhn's staff. He takes over with the Wildcats in search of the program's first playoff appearance since his hire and its first winning campaign since 2021.
Kuhn announced his resignation in a Facebook post on May 22, after going 13-18 in three seasons leading the Wildcats.
