New England Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte will have all eyes on him in training camp this summer.
Boutte had a year of note in 2025, as he finished third on the Patriots with 551 receiving yards and helped New England reach the Super Bowl at the end of the season. Yet, he’s trended away from being the Patriots’ No. 2 receiver following a busy offseason of moves by the franchise.
The Patriots’ decisions to trade for A.J. Brown and sign Romeo Doubs relegate Boutte to WR3 status and fourth in the pecking order behind tight end Hunter Henry. Boutte will also have Mack Hollins to battle for targets next season, after receiving 19 fewer targets than the latter on the year.
The 24-year-old receiver has seen his name circulate in trade rumors this offseason and opted not to attend the team’s OTAs this spring. After showing up to mandatory minicamp, Boutte cleared the air about his desire to remain in New England despite the new dichotomy in place with the team’s receiving corps.
Training camp will give Boutte the opportunity to make an impression on Patriots coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, particularly in joint practices. It is unlikely that Brown and Doubs will be anything other than the Patriots’ one-two punch next season, but there are still many factors that will impact Boutte in 2026.
Boutte is approaching the final year of his deal with New England. A strong season will strengthen his value in the trade market if the Patriots decide to move him to clear up space in their receiving corps for next season. A high level of play will also increase his value in free agency in 2027.
Training camp will paint a clearer picture as to how the Patriots’ receiving game will take shape next season, and Boutte is the biggest variable in that equation on far too many fronts, including how often he will line up as the X, Z, and slot receiver in the lineup, making him a player that will be under the microscope a great deal come summer.
