Will NC State crack the top 25 this fall?

The pre-season Coaches Poll was released on Tuesday, and only Miami, SMU, and Clemson made the top 25 out of the ACC, with NC State among several other league schools receiving votes. We could have guessed that State won’t begin the season in the top 25, but will it get there at some point? The first five weeks may be the deciding factor on that one.

If there is one thing that’s become fairly routine under Dave Doeren, it’s NC State having at least a cup of coffee in the top 25. The Pack might not be in for a long stay, but an appearance is typical of Dave’s winning seasons.

Last season ended a streak of five consecutive years of appearances in either the AP Poll or CFP top 25, and that was an impressive run, historically speaking: the only other such five-year streak in program history came from 1991-1995. All together, Dave’s had seven different teams crack the top 25 at some point—though only three have actually finished a season in the AP top 25 (five in the CFP top 25).
