Fourth-down aggression has gotten more common in the NFL among offensive playcallers in recent seasons.

Still, some playcallers are more aggressive than others. It appears new Las Vegas Raiders head coach and offensive playcaller Klint Kubiak has been among the least aggresssie play callers on fourth down in recent years.

Pro Football focus conducted a study of the most and the least aggressive teams on fourth down spanning the 2021-25 NFL seasons. The Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers went for it on fourth down the least amount of times in that time period. Also, the New Orleans Saints had the second fewest fourth-down conversions in that time span.

Kubiak was with those three teams in the past three seasons. So, these stats are not all on Kubiak, but he is part of a trend. It’s not necessarily good or bad if a playcaller is overly aggressive or not. But it will be interesting to see Kubiak’s approach on fourth down as a head coach
