Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Will Klein is reportedly weighing up elbow surgery, threatening to end his 2026 season.
Klein, a right-hander who was good for the first few months and saw a sharp decline, is currently on the 15-day injured list.
He was placed there following a run of bad performances, with his fastball velocity down and his delivery all over the place, as if he was overpitching to compensate for something.
It was no shock that Klein was suddenly put on the injured list, and his injury is quite serious.

According to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, the Dodgers and Klein are considering surgery, which would risk him missing the postseason.
“The Dodgers are deciding next steps after an MRI showed bone chips in his elbow, league sources told The Athletic,” Ardaya reported.
“Those sources spoke on the condition of anonymity so they could speak candidly about the fluid nature of the Dodgers’ plans. If Klein needs surgery, it would put his season in jeopardy.”
How long can Will Klein miss
The injury sounds quite similar to the description of loose bodies, an injury that has plagued pitchers recently, including a few Dodgers like Blake Snell and Edwin Diaz.
For surgery on an elbow of this nature, Klein would be looking at at least two months on the injured list to recover, though most timelines tend to range in the three-month range in the best cases.
If he elected to have surgery and things went great, Klein would be in a position to pitch during the playoffs, but most likely, any surgery takes him out of the mix for the season.

How will the Dodgers replace Klein
LA has a ton of organizational depth, leaving them with no shortage of options. Replacing the version of Klein who really broke through and gained the trust of manager Dave Roberts will be tough.
He had a sensational start to the season, with a 2.77 ERA in March and April and a 0.82 ERA in May.
However, in June, he had a 4.32 ERA in 8.1 innings and followed it up with a 7.71 ERA in 9.1 innings in July. This version is much more replaceable, with options like Bobby Miller, Gavin Stone, and Kris Bubic among those who could impress and fill in Klein’s middle relief role.
