Will Johnson headed to Green Bay expecting to be a first-round NFL draft pick, as was anticipated for quite some time. Yet, he waited and waited, and ultimately found himself having to go back to the drawing board, waiting to be selected on day two.

Finally, the call came in and Johnson was picked in the second round with the 47th overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals.

While Johnson is happy to be a Cardinal, he isn't happy at all that it took so long to hear his name called. In fact, it's put something of a chip on his shoulder.

From the Arizona Cardinals:

Getting to Arizona didn't go the way Johnson planned, however. Projected as a surefire first-round pick – many mocked Johnson to the Cardinals with the No. 16 overall selection – Johnson was left until the middle of the second round.

He was admittedly angry about it.

"One of those things that motivates you more than anything else," Johnson said. "I know I'm healthy."

Johnson missed half of the Wolverines' season in 2024 with a turf toe injury and also a shoulder issue. He also said he didn't understand questions that surfaced about his knee; it hadn't been a problem for two years.

An angry Will Johnson is probably the best Will Johnson -- at least from the Cardinals perspective.

Johnson is the all-time leader in pick-sixes for the Wolverines, having three in his three-year career. In fact, two of his interceptions returned for touchdowns came in his junior campaign, after he had the knee injury that concerned so many teams.
