Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza has yet to sign his rookie contract and many are wondering what's up?
The rookie quarterback, who is one of the odds-on favorites to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, may have his reasons as to why he has yet to sign his contract.
According to some reports, the problem may not be the contract but the signing bonus. A lot of rookies get a huge signing bonus upfront, but the Raiders are known for not giving their rookies signing bonuses all at once.
So it's understandable why Mendoza is reluctant to put his name on the dotted line. Another reason may be because of Ty Simpson. Like Mendoza, Simpson hasn't signed his contract.
Mendoza may be waiting to see what Simpson gets before he signs his contract. That happens a lot with first-rounders. They wait to see what another player gets at the same position before making their contract demands.
But neither Mendoza nor the Raiders seems to be that concerned about the situation. He arrived at mini-camp and OTAs ready to prove that he can lead this team this season, but you have to wonder what will happen if Mendoza isn't signed before training camp starts.
