Will Campbell isn’t wasting any time in building his relationship with his new quarterback.
During his introduction at Gillette Stadium Friday, the New England Patriots’ first-round pick said he’d already talked with Drake Maye. Campbell said that building a relationship with a quarterback is important for him as a player and teammate.
“That’s my quarterback,” Campbell said of Maye. “I’m just super excited to continue to build the relationship with him, get to know each other as people is something I’m looking forward to. I’m a quarterback guy. I care about them a lot off the field and on the field.”
Not only did Maye talk with Campbell, the Patriots’ franchise quarterback also met the draft pick’s family during their initial discussion.
“We were able to talk. He met my family. So that was pretty cool,” Campbell said. “We just talked for a little bit. … It was short and sweet. But that relationship will continue to grow more as I’m up here.”
Campbell heads to New England with high expectations as the No. 4 pick of the draft. The LSU product will be under pressure to quickly take the job at left tackle and help fix an offensive line that was a mess last season.
As we’ve seen so far, Campbell is wasting no time when it comes to putting in the work.
