Why Sophie Cunningham is broadcasting WNBA game for USA Network originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Sophie Cunningham is still a key member of the Indiana Fever.
But on Wednesday night, she'll be on the other side of a WNBA broadcast: She's getting a microphone as a broadcaster.
When the news was announced in the offseason, the suggestion was that Cunningham will work in the studio as an analyst, so that's the current expectation.
It's a cool opportunity for Cunningham to advance her career in the media realm while still in the midst of playing for the Fever.
"I'm playing tonight, but now I get to be you guys tomorrow"

Why is Sophie Cunningham working as a WNBA broadcaster while still playing?
This is a future Cunningham has wanted for a long time.
She did broadcast work while playing collegiately at Missouri, and she has continued looking for chances to hone her skills.
“I just love sports. I love talking to people and learning their stories. I love the ‘why,’” Cunningham said in the offseason, via Complex. “When I get asked to [commentate] for basketball, I know the game, I have the IQ for it. I see plays, I see why they do different schemes.”
Cunningham also has her own popular podcast, on which she generates plenty of headlines with strong takes.
It would make a lot of sense for Cunningham to do this gig full-time once she retires, and this is a head start.
