The Pittsburgh Pirates have a dugout filled with possible celebrations.

When a hitter launches a home run, they get to wear a steel mill welder's mask. But that's not all. There's also an orange traffic cone.

The traffic cone is new, but it's working so far.

Why do the Pirates have an orange traffic cone?

The Pirates entered Tuesday night's game just 6-for-45 with runners in scoring position.

In other words, Jake Magnum explained it like this:

“We’ve had a lot of traffic on the bases recently,” Mangum said. “We just haven’t directed ‘em home. We needed a traffic cone to make sure they got home... You have to direct traffic home sometimes, man."

The Pirates also have T-shirts on sale on Fanatics that say Hoist The Cone, and no one is quite sure why.

Well, at least now there's some cross-promotion happening.

The Pirates kept the traffic cone going on Wednesday, and they kept scoring runs.

Given the superstitions of baseball players, the traffic cone isn't going anywhere as long as the Pirates keep hitting and getting runners home.
