Why Patriots, Deebo Samuel don't actually make sense as a free agent match originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New England Patriots are in the midst of a crucial offseason, trying to figure out how to properly mold their roster after a surprise run to the Super Bowl.
That leaves them in the midst of plenty of rumors, including a recent suggestion from Bleacher Report that the Pats are a logical landing spot for free agent WR Deebo Samuel.
Are they, though?
There's plenty of case to be made that Samuel to New England would be totally illogical.

Why Deebo Samuel doesn't make sense for Patriots
The list is long, but Samuel would essentially be surplus to proceedings while costing too much.
The Patriots let Stefon Diggs go this offseason rather than pay an aging wideout a hefty fee, so why would they do that with Samuel?
He'd also not have a particularly big role if the Patriots do indeed acquire A.J. Brown in a trade.
The Pats signed Romeo Doubs already this offseason, and they still have Kayshon Boutte.
A Samuel addition would take playing time away from promising youngsters Kyle Williams and Efton Chism, both of whom will already have a tough time getting on the field if Brown indeed does come to town.
The lack of logic in the Patriots signing Samuel wouldn't be about his own ability. He's still an intriguing playmaker.
But as far as New England's cap space and depth chart are concerned, it's just not a particularly good fit.
