Most big-name NFL free agents have signed contracts by now.

Three of the remaining available players are notable wide receivers: Stefon Diggs, Deebo Samuel and Tyreek Hill.

Diggs played one season with the New England Patriots before they sent him back onto the open market.

The same was true for Samuel with the Washington Commanders.

Hill was with the Miami Dolphins longer, but a nasty injury ended his tenure there.

The reality is that all three of these guys share something in common, and while not complicated, it's part of the reason they're all still available.

Simply put, they aren't worth what they used to be worth.

As aging receivers on the downslope of their careers, they may be seeking contract values that simply don't reflect the ability they still possess.

Diggs, Samuel and Hill (if healthy) can all still impact a football game. But if they all had cases as No. 1 WRs in the past, they don't really have that now.

It's hard to know what they may or may not be asking for in negotiations, but it's believable to think that they want a larger salary than teams are willing to offer.

They also, at this point, have the benefit of waiting it out. They aren't in a rush to get a deal, because they've been well compensated throughout their careers. At this point, they want the best fit. They don't want to end up somewhere that would limit their chances of success.

It just makes for a bit of unexpected suspense. High-profile free agents don't often linger this long, especially in a group at one position like this. But for Diggs, Samuel and Hill, the waiting game has clearly begun.
